Application Context

Why Engineers Choose WHP for Coaxial Cable Assemblies

When signal integrity determines whether your system meets spec, your coaxial cable assemblies cannot be an afterthought. Insertion loss, termination quality, and shield integrity all matter — especially on higher-frequency paths where marginal terminations degrade system performance.

WHP manufactures build-to-print coaxial cable assemblies for RF programs that need repeatable, documented production. Every assembly receives 100% continuity and insertion-loss testing; test records follow the approved control plan, with sampling where the program test plan permits it. Metrology beyond continuity and insertion loss (for example VSWR, return loss, or TDR) is not performed in-house and is left to the customer or a specified third party.

From prototype assemblies for lab validation to recurring telecom production, capacity, material traceability, and release records are confirmed for the approved program. Production in China and the Philippines follows the customer drawing and program-specific control plan.

Engineering Challenges

What determines RF assembly performance

01

Insertion Loss & Termination

Insertion loss and termination quality are what we control and test in-house — clean, repeatable terminations built to the drawing and verified by insertion-loss testing per the plan.

02

EMI / RFI Shielding

Multi-layer braid, foil wrap and conductive jackets provide shielding effectiveness exceeding 90 dB (construction dependent) to keep external noise out of the signal path.

03

Impedance Selection

Impedance is set by the 50 / 75 Ohm coaxial cable specified in your drawing; we source genuine cable and connectors and terminate them to controlled dimensions.

04

Termination & Test Rigor

IPC-certified termination, 100% continuity and insertion-loss testing on every unit, plus sample pull-force testing per the control plan.

Quality & Testing

Testing and records follow the approved program plan

Every coaxial assembly receives 100% continuity and insertion-loss testing, with serialization and retained test data per the approved control plan and sample or unit-level records as defined by the program test plan. In-house RF metrology is limited to continuity and insertion loss; VSWR, return loss, and TDR, when required, are performed by the customer or a specified third party.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of coaxial cable do you work with?
We manufacture assemblies using the full range of coaxial cable types: flexible (RG-58, RG-59, RG-174, RG-316, RG-142), low-loss (LMR-100/200/400/600), semi-rigid (0.047" to 0.250"), conformable/hand-formable, and micro-coaxial cables. We source from leading manufacturers including Times Microwave, Huber+Suhner, and Belden to ensure consistent electrical performance.
What is your minimum order quantity for coaxial cable assemblies?
Our minimum order quantity starts at just 10 pieces for standard configurations. For prototypes and engineering samples, we accept orders from 1 piece with expedited 3-5 day turnaround. Production runs scale from hundreds to tens of thousands per month with volume pricing.
How do you ensure the RF performance of each cable assembly?
Every coaxial assembly receives 100% continuity and insertion-loss testing per the approved control plan, with sample or unit-level records supplied when required by the program test plan. In-house RF metrology is limited to continuity and insertion loss; VSWR, return loss, and TDR are not measured in-house and, when a program requires them, are performed by the customer or a specified third party.
Can you build length-matched coaxial cable assembly sets?
Yes — we build matched-length assembly sets to your drawing for antenna arrays and multi-channel systems, holding each cable to the specified length tolerance. Any phase-match verification requiring VSWR/network-analyzer measurement is performed by the customer or a specified third party, not in-house.
What connector types can you terminate?
We terminate all standard RF connector families: SMA, 2.92mm (K), 2.4mm, 3.5mm, BNC, TNC, N-Type, SMB, SMC, MCX, MMCX, QMA, 7/16 DIN, and F-Type. We stock a wide range of straight, right-angle, bulkhead, and panel-mount configurations in both 50 Ohm and 75 Ohm impedances.
Can you build with customer-specified connector cable and connector types?
We build to customer drawings that may identify IEC 61196 cable types, IEC 61169 connector types or IEC 60068 test methods. Those references define materials or acceptance methods only and do not represent end-market qualification.
